Clicker Training
First widely used by dolphin trainers who needed a way to teach behavior without using physical force, clicker training is an animal training method that works by marking a desirable behavior with a clicker and rewarding it. It is a very clear way of telling an animal when they did the right thing.
Clicker training can and has been used to train animals of all sizes and species, both domesticated and wild, young and old; all breeds of dogs and puppies, cats, birds, leopards, rats, rabbits, chinchillas, fish, and more. When an animal learns that his actions result in positive consequences (a reward) and that he can take control of those consequences, he transforms into an animal that happily participates in a learning situation and is eager to learn new things. Clicker training produces behaviors that the animal will remember longer because it was totally engaged in the learning process.
